My name is Emily Grace (she/they) and I’m the owner and creator of Hellebane, a 100% canadian and queer & woman owned business.

I’ve always been drawn to the macabre. As a child, I would wander along the river behind my house collecting all the salmon bones washed up along the shoreline. For years, I kept a private collection of found oddities in a wooden box on my windowsill until it was. I’d also spend hours collecting any and all bugs I could safely get my hands on: snails, ladybugs, catepillers, daddy long-legs, etc.

My creative practice with oddities began in early 2018 with insect taxidermy and has since grown into a varied body of work spanning oddities, bonecraft jewelry, and hand-illustrated artwork. Each piece reflects my long-held fascination with the unusual and the overlooked.

Every piece created is something I can stand behind completely, from the sourcing of materials to the reliability and integrity of the finished work.

A strong personal ethical standard is at the core of everything created at Hellebane. I am fully committed to ensuring all materials are legally, ethically, and responsibly sourced. In the oddity world, the word “ethical” can sometimes be used loosely or subjectively, so I take special care to be transparent in my what I consider ethical sourcing to be. I do not use any animal remains that were sourced for the sole purpose of sale, and only work with materials that are byproducts of other processes, such as farming or government regulated population control. My love for animals runs deep, so much so that I don’t even kill bugs and have been known to go to great lengths at the annoyance of others to protect their life. I carefully vet all my vendors to ensure their practices align with my values, and I won’t source animal materials where there is not a justified reason, such as trophy or sport hunting. The pieces I use are either from from small farms/breeders, government-regulated population control, deceased pets, found pieces, or owl pellets from local wildlife rehabiliations.

I genuinely value the people who support my work and strive to make each interaction thoughtful, respectful, and personal whenever possible. If you have questions about anything, please contact me at hellebane@gmail.com or use the contact form.
