Hellebane is a Canadian woman-owned business that is owned and operated solely by myself, Emily Grace.
My journey into creating began in early 2018 with insect taxidermy and has since evolved into a diverse collection of oddities, bonecraft jewelry, and hand-illustrated artwork. Each piece is an expression of my long-standing love for the unconventional. I also regularly sell at local in-person markets, which is one of my favorite parts of what I do. I love meeting people face to face, sharing stories, and talking about the strange and beautiful world of oddities, bones, and nature.
A strong personal ethical standard is at the core of everything created at Hellebane. I am fully committed to ensuring all materials are legally, ethically, and responsibly sourced. In the oddity world, the word “ethical” can sometimes be used loosely or subjectively, so I take special care to be transparent in my what I consider ethical sourcing to be. I do not use any animal remains that were sourced for the purpose of sale, and only work with materials that are byproducts of other processes. My love for animals runs deeply, so much so that I do not even kill bugs and have been known to go to great lengths to protect their right to life. I carefully vet all vendors to ensure their practices align with these values, and I do not source materials from animals where there is not a justified reason for their passing, such as trophy or sport hunting. The pieces I use are either from from small farms/breeders, government-regulated population control, deceased pets, found pieces, or owl pellets from local wildlife rehabiliations.
Every piece created is something I can stand behind completely, from the sourcing of materials to the reliability and integrity of the finished work.
I genuinely value the people who support my work and strive to make each interaction thoughtful, respectful, and personal whenever possible.
